Snorkeling Day trips

We run full day snorkeling trips on our speed boat out to stunning islands in Semporna. Semporna offers excellent snorkeling opportunities! We have two different snorkeling trip options: Tun sakaran marine park (Sibuan, Mantabuan & Bohey Dulang), or the Non-marine park trip (Mataking, Pandanan, Mabul, Kapalai, Si Amil.
Please see our snorkeling page for more information about the different trips.

Explore Bum Bum Island
Self discovery!

Take a walk around Bum Bum island to experience the local way of life. Bum Bum is a large island (42 sq km) inhabited mostly by the Bajau Laut, a fishing community known as the 'Sea Gypsies'.  The Bajau Laut are famed for their talented free diving and spear fishing skills! Revenue on the island is mostly generated by fishing and seaweed cultivation. Seaweed farming is now a growing industry, as it exported to use in animal feed, human food, cosmetics and fertilizer. It is also a sustainable environmentally friendly product as it helps sustain the reef and marine life.
Around Bum Bum there are many small kampongs (villages), seaweed farms, a few small shops, restaurants, schools and mosques. There is a narrow tarmac road that circles around the island but very few cars. We recommend you hitch a ride on one of the frequent old minivans that shuttle locals around the island, or rent a local driver for half a day (we can help to arrange).

Shops
There are some small shops and very simple restaurants on Bum Bum. However, Bum Bum is still a very quiet, traditional, undeveloped island. If you would like any snacks, toiletries, cigarettes etc then please bring these with you from Semporna town where there are many shops.

Power
We do have 24 hour power in Bum bum. However, note that there can be power outages which are out of our control.

Internet
We have satalite internet available, our WIFI is fast and reliable!
We have phone signal in Bum Bum. We do recommend you buy a local MAXIS hotlink or Celcom prepaid sim (RM10) to use with internet data when traveling in Malaysia. Sim cards with data are very cheap here and easily available.

NO plastic bottles
We do not sell plastic water bottles in the resort (we have picked up too many off beaches in Sabah to justify not selling them!). We provide filtered water that is safe to drink, we recommend you use your own flask to refill water. If you do not have a flask please just ask us and we will lend you one.

Water
During your stay we ask that you make an effort to please conserve water. Turn taps off immediately after use. Thank you!

Mosquitos
Please bring/wear insect repellent and cover up in the early morning and early evening (when they are most hungry!) Be aware we do sometimes have sand flies on the island and beaches in the marine park.

Jellyfish & Poisonous Animals
We do get jellyfish in Sabah. We strongly recommend that all children wear a skin suit or long clothing to protect from jellyfish stings whilst swimming in the sea in Borneo.
